Should I schedule an in-home newborn session or go to a studio to have my photos taken? Maybe this is a question you've been asking yourself and this is how you landed on my blog. I personally believe staying in your home is not only the safest, but is also the most beautiful location for your
Authentic/Natural Posing
In traditional newborn photography (it has its place and there are many gifted traditional newborn photographers) babies tend to be wrapped up like dolls, placed in unnatural poses, and overfed to keep them asleep. I would never to any of that. The babies I photograph can be awake or asleep. If I safely pose them a certain way and they don’t like it, we won’t do it. And ultimately, if they never want to leave their parent’s arms they don’t have to. I want to photograph them just as they are, they don’t need to be posed into anything that they aren’t. I strive to capture connection, not perfection within families and newborns.
Safety
The safest place for your newborn to be is in your own home and in your arms. There is no need to make extra trips out of your house right after having a baby, that is why I come to you. I also keep contact between myself and baby at a minimum and always make sure I have washed my hands.
Comfort
“There’s no place like home” as they saying goes. Everyone feels most comfortable in their own space - parents, baby(ies), and siblings. My number one goal is to have my clients feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible, no need have the added hassle of tending to your little ones in a foreign place/studio.
Intimacy/ Connection
There is an added level of intimacy and connection that comes with lifestyle photography, but even more so being in your own home. I believe comfort, like I talked about above, plays a role in that. When I photography I want people to feel an image more than they see it. I hope it evokes emotions and brings back the feelings/memories of their newborns. In my opinion, you cannot fully reach that in a studio.
Memories of Your House
You will also have the added bonus of having the home you brought/raised your babies in captured. We often don’t think about the memories a house may hold until it it time to part with it, so having some of those moments captured will give you photos to treasure for a lifetime.
Minimal Stress on Family
No need to pack a diaper bag, snacks, extra clothes, and whatever else you may need for a trip out. You don’t have to be on time anywhere (that one is up to me) and you don’t need to try and wrangle little ones in public. Siblings can come and go as they please. You can change diapers and nurse when needed wherever you are most comfortable in your house.
