What to Expect at Your Newborn Shoot

Newborn Photography

How your session will look

My goal with all newborn sessions is to keep it as stress free as possible. I typically do my newborn sessions in the morning around 10:30 as babies tend to be happier early in the day. I come right to your house so you are most comfortable and don't have the added stress of taking baby out. I always recommend that baby is fed about fifteen minutes before I arrive so they are full and happy. If there are siblings I will always capture them with baby first as they are most excited when I first arrive and quickly get bored and move in. I will also get the entire family together at this time. I will then take photos with just mom and dad, mom by herself, and dad by himself with the baby. By this time baby is typically ready for another feed so we will take a break for a nursing session/bottle feed. If you are comfortable and up to it I will quietly capture some beautiful nursing photos. If baby is content after feeding we will get some photos of them alone for as long as they tolerate.

"What if"

There are always concerns going into a newborn shoot because newborns can be so unpredictable. Fears such as "what if my baby cries the entire time," or "my toddler is very active I'm worried they won't sit still for any photos" are just a couple concerns that clients talk with me about often. My goal is to run sessions that are non stressful for both the parents and babies. I never force babies to be out of their parents arms if they are not content. I can get beautiful portraits of baby while feeling safe with mom or dad. I also expect very little from siblings and work with them, even if that means playing with them in their room for a few minutes so they warm up to me. I want my sessions to be something the family enjoys and has fond memories of when they look back at their portraits.
